Science Over Fluff ("we", "us", "the site") publishes independent reviews and comparison tools for beauty devices. This page explains what limited data we collect when you use the site, why, and the choices you have.
1. What we collect
Analytics (Google Analytics 4)
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which articles and tools are useful — for example, pages viewed, approximate region (derived from IP, which Google truncates), and general device/browser type. In the EEA, UK, and Switzerland these analytics cookies only load after you consent via our cookie banner (Google Consent Mode). We do not use this data to identify you personally.
Affiliate referral measurement
When you click an outbound "buy" or "get it here" link, the click passes through our own link router. The router records anonymous, aggregate information only: which product was clicked, which retailer or affiliate network it routed to, the country it routed for, and the product category. It does not record your name, IP address, or any identifier that could single you out — it exists purely so we can see which recommendations people find helpful.
Affiliate / retailer cookies
After you click through to a retailer, that retailer and the affiliate network handling the referral (see Section 4) may set their own cookies to attribute any purchase to us. These are governed by those companies' own privacy policies, not ours.
What we do not collect
- No accounts, logins, names, emails, or phone numbers (unless you choose to email us or subscribe to the Science Over Fluff newsletter).
- No payment or card information — purchases happen entirely on the retailer's own site.
- We never sell or rent personal information to anyone.
2. Cookies & your choices
We use a small number of cookies for analytics and for remembering your cookie-consent choice. Essential cookies (needed for the site to function and to store your consent decision) are always on; non-essential analytics cookies are optional.
- Change your choice: use the consent banner when it appears, or clear this site's cookies in your browser to be asked again.
- Block cookies entirely: most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings.
- Opt out of Google Analytics: you can install Google's opt-out browser add-on.
3. Affiliate disclosure
Science Over Fluff is reader-supported. Many of our outbound product links are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you buy through them — at no extra cost to you, and often with a discount.
4. Third parties we rely on
We share data only with the service providers needed to run the site:
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Google Analytics | Aggregate site analytics (consent-gated in EEA/UK/CH) |
| Cloudflare | Hosting and content delivery |
| Affiliate networks | Attributing qualifying purchases made through our links |
Each of these operates under its own privacy policy. We do not control, and are not responsible for, the privacy practices of the retailers you ultimately purchase from.
5. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the EU/UK GDPR or California's CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data, and to opt out of certain processing. Because we don't hold personal accounts or identifiers, in most cases there's little personal data to act on — but if you've contacted us by email, you can ask us to delete that correspondence at any time (see Section 7).
6. Data retention & children
Aggregate analytics are retained only as long as useful for understanding site performance. This site is intended for adults making decisions about personal-care devices; it is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
